A couple in Waukesha, Wisconsin (1 hour, 4o minutes from the Dells) was charged with disorderly conduct after being observed having sex…in the Waukesha County Jail Lobby. First read the headline, and wasn’t sure how they could have possibly mixed up prisoners of differing genders–and realized upon reading further that they literally meant the lobby…as in the couple wondered in off the street, and ended up getting busy.

According to the complaint, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched (which…I would think was basically just walking out of the break room?) to the jail lobby on Thursday, May 2nd, after the jail supervisor reported the couple–28-year-old Desmound Cleveland and 67-year-old Karen Hill–engaged in sexual acts around 3am in the lobby, and were recorded on video surveillance. Hill was still on the scene at the jail, and admitted that the two–who she says had been dating for five years–intended to go to a boarding house, but had been locked out, so they walked into the jail lobby, took a nap, and…woke up frisky (my words, not hers).

The case highlights what one county supervisor said was a need for more defined loitering ordinances, as jail staff apparently didn’t think they had any authority to remove somebody from the lobby, with current laws and ordinances–although, I think any sane person would say that when a couple starts getting busy in a public place at 3am…there’s good reason to shoo them along.
