A 28-year-old mother from Fredonia, Wisconsin (2 hours, 9 minutes from the Dells) admitted to police that she strapped her nine-year old son to the roof of the van, to hold down a plastic pool that she had picked up and was transporting home.
When police arrived, Amber Schmunk told officers that she believed it was OK, as her father let her do things like that when she was that age, and there wasn’t enough room in the minivan for the pool.
Other highlights from the complaint:
- She didn’t have a way to strap down the pool…but she later told police she did strap the boy down inside the pool
- Before pulling into her sister’s driveway, she pulled over and took her son off the roof–and proceeded to fold the pool and put it inside the van
Schmunk is facing second degree charges of recklessly endangering safety, a felony that could carry 10 years in prison.
